JCI Kure, Japan

In July, 2018 heavy rains caused great damage and disaster in Kure. Members in the area worked hard to begin this project as a long-term way to offer recovery, restore vitality and bring resilience to the community following the disaster. During the rains, more than 2,000 houses were damaged, and homes were without water or flooded. Over the course of this project, members of JCI Kure set up the Kure Disaster Volunteer Center that later led to another five sub volunteer centers and over 39,000 volunteers. They also established events to bring joy and restore vitality to those impacted, things like summer festivals and even a dance event. Hoping to bring the values of resilience to the disaster, JCI Kure was able to sign an agreement with Kure City and the social welfare council to offer real support during this time. A project that truly shows that service to humanity is the best work of life.
