The 2022 JCI Asia and the Pacific Conference Award Winners Revealed!

At the 2022 JCI Asia and the Pacific Conference, the Awards Ceremony was met with much excitement and suspense as winners were announced throughout the evening. From Best JCI RISE Project to Most Outstanding New Member, each winner was worthy of their newfound recognition and has played a major role in spreading the message of JCI around the world. Read below to learn more and be inspired by the innovative and entrepreneurial actions JCI members from Asia and the Pacific have taken!

Best Local Business and Entrepreneurship Program

Winner:
Starters, GO! To new heights!
JCI Apex, Hong Kong 

COVID-19 has imposed catastrophic impacts on economies around the globe. Numerous enterprises are devastated and the traditional business model has sounded the alarm bells. In light of this, JCI Apex launched “Starters, GO! To New Heights!” This program aimed to provide resources and connections to equip Hong Kong SMEs and startup businesses with the conditions and professional knowledge needed to expand to overseas markets. To do this, a series of ten events were held targeting different ASEAN regions which included online surveys, business owners and experts sharing their experiences, online consultation, cross-nation online pitching and physical business meetings. With 68 partners and supporting organizations, brand new corporate sponsors, 588 enterprises reached through the online survey, 30 company sponsored projects and more, membership growth swelled to over 100%! The project was a success, with participants more capable of entrepreneurship than ever before.

Best JCI RISE Project

Winner:
Care and Dare 2021: Empowering Working MOMs 
JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes, Hong Kong

Because of COVID-19, one in four women considered downsizing their careers or leaving the workforce entirely because of intensified work, childcare and housework pressures. JCI Hong Kong Jayceettes, as a female chapter of 52 years, took it upon themselves to help working mothers regain their confidence and actively rejoin the workforce. To help with this, they held a Mother’s Festival Workshops, a momtrepreneur bazaar that attracted over 1000 visitors, and launched a “Women Sustainable Career Pledge” where 65 companies pledged to implement family-friendly initiatives that help women continue to develop their career after giving birth.

Best International Cooperation Project

JCI Leader, Mongolia

Mongolia is home to one of the world’s last surviving nomadic cultures, and these nomads still live in traditional ways. The project first started with an intention to reduce health issues of herder’s in rural areas. However, after conducting analysis on herder’s lifestyle, their research indicated the primary cause for many herders’ health was malnutrition. Therefore, the project broadened its plan to start from the bottom. To do so, JCI Leader and JCI Seogwipo collaborated and improved countryside people’s health with nutritional food, reduced dependency on livestock, increased family income and promoted financial advantages for households.

Best National Growth And Development Program

Winner:
Road to 5000 – JCI Malaysia Take The LEAD Program
JCI Malaysia

With over 2400 JCI members involved, JCI Malaysia set out to grow their organization. Based on the core pillars of the 2022 JCI Plan of Action, this program focused on laying the foundation for an enhanced membership journey starting from recruitment, onboarding, engagement and retention. The most important outcome – JCI Malaysia grew exponentially with 259 new members, equivalent to over 10.7% by the end of 2021. With this positive energy, they are sure to continue to achieve upward growth as 2022 continues.

Project 100 – H.E.A.R.T.
JCI Apex, Hong Kong

“Project 100 – H.E.A.R.T.” Membership Program, was an integrated and long-term program – H-Happiness, E-Empowerment, A-Alliance, R-Rise and T-Training. To align with these ideas, around 280 events, meetings and gatherings were held with my support and encouragement. Leaders were empowered everyday and organized six flagship projects. Around 200 stakeholders were connected with to create business opportunities and raise JCI Apex’s brand awareness. Under R-Rise, JCI Apex was dedicated to achieving 100% membership growth. And to keep up with training, they offered 30 intensive training sessions to provide their members with necessary knowledge and skills. In the end, JCI Apex exceeded their goals and achieved 104% membership growth.

Best Local Community Impact Program

Winner:
Mold to Success 
JCI Makati, Philippines

MOLD TO SUCCESS is a livelihood program that started inside the home of a family in Quezon Province. JCI Makati made it their mission that a community from Tiaong, Quezon, would become known as one of the best arts and craft communities in the Philippines. Thus, they focused on producing world class artistic Filipino-themed key chains via recycled plastics. They focused on positive economic impact through coaching on continuous product line development, sourcing of recyclable plastic materials to be used and marketing strategies, which greatly prepared the business to thrive during the pandemic. The  MOLD TO SUCCESS program has been a main anchor for strength for families, which has enabled them to thrive and have a better understanding on the importance of an enterprising family. 

Best Local Individual Development Program

Winner:
LITTLE BOSS
JCI Malacca City Entrepreneur, Malaysia

The goal of this project was to have children appreciate the hard-earned money from their parents, thus having them experience what it was like to be working as boss. In collaboration with one of the biggest shopping malls, Dataran Pahlawan in Melaka Raya, children were provided the opportunity to showcase and sell their products. Various kinds of products ranging from food to homemade accessories to toys were presented at the event. Children were required to learn to present their products, having creative ideas to attract the consumers. All the profits or loss made during their sale was kept to the participants, giving the opportunity for the children to know how much the cost was and how much they made. 

Best Inter-organization Collaboration Project

Winner:
The Boardroom – Thriving Through the Pandemic: Resiliency, Collaboration & Optimism
JCI Makati, Philippines

During their 2021 Strategic Planning, JCI Makati agreed to put JCI and JCI Makati in the International arena. Thus, the project “The Boardroom” came into the picture focused on creating a strong presence in the international space industry. This was ultimately done in collaboration with BNI, The Rotary International, and the Kiwanis International. Multiple projects were crafted and executed under the The Boardroom Project including over 40 projects in 30 days. Each project fully helped in developing enterprising young leaders amidst the pandemic. JCI Makati fully aligned with the JCI RISE initiative, and spread the message of JCI to its local community with vital strategic planning.

Best Local Global Goals Project

Winner:
TOGETHER WE RISE, JCI South Key – MALAYSIA
JCI South Key, Malaysia

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a historic recession with record levels of deprivation and unemployment, creating an unprecedented crisis that is hitting the poorest hardest. During the pandemic year, JCI South Key committed to take proactive action. This program was divided into four development stages, covering seven series of projects: 34 Rescue Actions, 51 Mental Health Awareness Events, 46 employment development opportunities and 10 Business recovery sessions. With TOGETHER WE RISE, JCI South Key successfully recruited 15 new members and contributed an increment of 30% of new members as compared to 2020.

Best National Flagship Program

JCI Mongolia Academy – “Shine Bright” 
JCI Mongolia

The JCI Mongolia Academy commenced operations in 2018, being the main long-lasting Project of JCI Mongolia. Each year, the project is updated and aligned to the JCI Plan of Action and responsibilities to carry out the project are distributed among local chapters. “Shine Bright”, the 2022 slogan of JCI Mongolia means to develop leaders of the future and make them shine the brightest in their own way. Focusing on personal development, a total of 38 in-house trainers organized under a sophisticated KPI system with 15 major events, including the leadership convention and RISE academy. With the help of 125 companies, a total of $158,000 was raised from members and businesses. This and more resulted in a direct increase of 33 more members and an approximate number of 250 new prospective members.

Most Outstanding New Local Organization

Winner:
JCI Century 
Malaysia

Since the affiliation in 2019, JCI Century membership has grown steadily from 20 members to 35 members, which made up a 70% of membership GROWTH in less than three years. JCI Century completed a total of 15 projects and 167 events and activities to motivate members to stay active. Often using the JCI Action Framework, JCI Century was able to enhance their relationships with over 74 sponsors and partners from all sectors of society. Despite the COVID-19 Pandemic and the physical events restriction, they are confident and expect to have 30% to 50% of membership growth in the next three years. 

Most Outstanding Local Organization

JCI Apex
Hong Kong

JCI Apex is recognized as the leading young organization in their local society. To target membership growth, they created a Member meet Member program, where each board member is allocated to mentor four to five members individually. Here they can facilitate casual catch ups to better understand the members’ thoughts and needs. THey also created PROJECT 100. WIthin this project they conducted 4PMOs, held the “Members Get Members and PMs Get PMs” scheme to motivate all members to bring their friends and introduce JCI everywhere and at every moment. Finally, they have recruited 49 members with a 104% membership GROWTH. 

Most Outstanding Local President

Winner:
Christy Chan
JCI Apex, Hong Kong

President Christy Chan has consistently proven herself to be a resilient young entrepreneur. She has been a wonderful role model, attending over 280 events and meetings and was openly transparent with communication with members by fully committing to an issued President Message on the first of each month. President Christy recruited 13 members in 2021 and received Networker Gold status of Networker in AJC. She is a coach for future leaders and set up special mentorships led by PPs for EXCOM to train up the second tier. She has also located her successor within the first quarter for earliest experience sharing and task transfer, which inspired 2022 potential candidates to work harder and align accurately. She has also signed a friendship pact with JCI United Penang, hosted the RISE summit and so much more.

Most Outstanding New Member

Winner:
Jamie Lim Siew Hoon 
JCI Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Jamie, the “IRON LADY” from JCI Kuala Lumpur, took 638 days to be fully equipped with knowledge and skills to activate a large group of members in JCI Kuala Lumpur. Jamie aspires to bring JCI Malaysia and JCI Kuala Lumpur’s name into international waters by connecting with stakeholders to create long-term community projects to help the underprivileged. During this pandemic crisis, Jamie has successfully assisted in training 120 participants and inspired new members to take up roles in organizing projects and programs, such as JCI Kuala Lumpur SEED 100. Jamie is consistently an active, responsible and supportive key member, who used multilingual skills to serve as the international affairs commission director and Vice President of Individuals. No doubt by her strong physique and mental strength, she took up many challenges voluntarily to inspire and bring positive changes to both senior and new members.

Winner:
Viviane Tong 
JCI Muar, Malaysia

Viviane is a visionary, passionate and committed member to the organization and has started many initiatives and continuously increased her positive impact and support to JCI Muar. Since 2014, Viviane has spearheaded multiple projects in inspiring and cultivating more enterprising members in JCI Muar. After working on many committees, she eventually rose to serve as the Local President of JCI Muar. Viviane is a strong believer that personal and leadership development serves as a catalyst towards growth and committed herself by serving in the National Board and as a JCI Trainer. She was also qualified as one of six JCI Malaysia Principal Trainers and has served as a Head Trainer in Core Competency Programs and Area Academies. As an enterprising young leader, Viviane expanded her influence beyond JCI, being invited to hold leadership roles in other organizations such as the Chinese Chambers of Commerce, Malaysia Postpartum Care Association and Malaysia Entrepreneurs’ Development Association. Her drive and dedication have helped create the JCI Muar that exists today.
